Why not serve these up at your next barbecue.. Nobody will be disappointed, trust me!
I am not much of a hamburger person myself, but I do love these home made ones every once in a while. I know it is a bit of an effort to make the buns as well, but sometimes it is just worth it. Go on, give it a try!
100% Pure Beef Burgers
Makes 8 Burgers
Add the dry yeast to the water, stir and set aside. Sift together in a large bowl the flour, salt and sugar. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and mix well with your fingers until you have a crumbly mixture. Make a well in the centre of the bowl. Now add the egg and water. Gently fold flour in from the sides until you have incorporated all of the flour into the mixture. You should have have a sticky dough. On a floured surface start to knead the bread. This would take around 8 minutes. next, cover the dough with a damp cloth and put n a warm place to rise This will take about an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
Once the dough has doubled in a size, gently knock it down and divide it into 8 balls. On a large and greased baking tray, arrange the 8 balls. Then flatten them all out to approximately 3 inches diameter. Cover again and leave to rise for about 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Once the rolls have risen for the second time, bake them for around 15 minutes or until golden brown.
*Hint: You can brush melted butter over the rolls before baking. This will give them an extra golden touch.
For the Beef Patties
In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef with all the other ingredients. Mix thoroughly with you hands. Once it is combined, form into 8 balls, Then on a working surface take each meat ball and flatten it out to approximately 1/2 inch thick.
For cooking, you can either grill them on the barbecue or cook them on the stove top. The barbecue does give it that extra great flavour. So, if you have one accessible, use it. Put the barbecue on high and cook patties for approximately 5-7 minutes each side. On the stove top, cook for about the same amount of time.
Serve with the hamburger rolls and any toppings you like. Served here with tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions.
