If you follow along my food blog, you will rapidly notice that I never indulge into food trends. By that I mean, I kind of follow my own way through my kitchen ignoring what is popular, what people are eating this week, the new tofu and so on. I am pretty basic when it comes to food with sometimes a bit of modern flare. All that being said, it is fun to see what, you, the readers looked at the most these past 12 months. I have picked out the top 10 recipes of the year according to my trusty ol' statistics. And if these stats have anything to say for themselves, it looks like you all like comfort food!!! Yay. So, let's see what 2016 looks like in food.
Kicking off the top ten countdown with these Cinnamon Buns. I am so happy they made the top 10 because they absolutely deserve to be here. These buns are totally light and decadent and delicious and all those great things you would expect from a cinnamon bun.
Just squeezing into the list at number nine, we have this Seafood Risotto. This was our Valentine's Day dinner this year and I have only made it a few times. Worth every single bite!
I was kind of surprised to see this Indian Butter Chicken on the list as it only made it's way to the blog in November. So it just must be that good, or you folks liked the photos...hehehe.
This Chicken Leek and Broccoli Oven Pasta didn't surprise me one little bit at all. Firstly because it looks so dam good! And it tastes even better. Plus it made it's way to the cover of a Food Bloggers of Canada weekly round of up comfort food. Getting a little exposure never hurt anyone, right? If you haven't tried this recipe and love indulgent pasta dishes, make it in 2017!
This Triple Layer Ganache Cake is about as fancy as I go when it comes to cakes. You have probably heard me state a zillion times that cake decorating isn't my strong suit, like at all!!! However, from time to time I give it a go with some somewhat suitable results. Mmmm, this might just be suitable. And according to all of you, it is suitable enough to make the top 10! So, thanks readers for helping to give this good ol' birthday cake the spotlight.
Continuing the countdown with even more comfort food. Seems you all like a bit of warming comfort food which is music to my ears. This Potato & Spinach Gratin has comfort written all over it and would be a great dish to make on a chilly January night.
Nearing the top of the list with this Chocolate Self Saucing Pudding Cake. This is a dessert I grew up with and is my kids' favourite dessert. Timeless desserts never ever seem to go out of fashion.

Well, the second most popular recipe on the blog this year are these Fresh Cod Fish Cakes. Coming from Newfoundland, this makes me quite happy. Growing up, I absolutely hated fish cakes. It was my worst nightmare if I knew that was what was going on the dinner table. I don't know what was wrong with me as a kid. I guess that is just it, I was a kid. If you are like my younger self and don't think you like fish cakes, try these!
The number one recipe on the blog for 2016 was Mike's Slow Roasted Carrot and Ginger Soup! It came in first by an absolute landslide with too many views to count. This soup I didn't even make, I only dressed it up and took photos of it after Mike finished making it. Yet here it stands it all it's glory at the number one spot of 2016! Congratulations Mike on taking the spotlight on the blog...ha! It really is a great soup and worthy of trying for sure. I was a tad surprised to see it make number one but pleased at the same time.
