This time of year I start to think towards Christmas and my annual Christmas cocktail party. More of a small gathering of friends than a roaring party, but nonetheless we call it a Christmas party. So, right about now I like to start trying out new party nibbles. Usually I aim to make a selection of hot and cold finger food and I love things on sticks. So yesterday we had a friend coming around for dinner and I thought it a nice time to try out a new before dinner nibble. I know how much he loves his jamon iberico (Spanish cured ham), so I knew these little bites would be a good idea. They are easy to make, pretty to look at and can be made in advance. I am certain they will be making the Christmas party this year.
Depending on where you live, will depend on the availability of this type of ham. You could use prosciutto if you find this type hard to find or too expensive.
Jamon y Queso Bites
Makes about 20 bites
6 slices of good quality of Iberico Jamon (Spanish cured ham)
4 or 5 thick cut slices of cured cheese (I used a old cured goats cheese)
Small handful of arugula leaves
Cut the jamon into strips lengthways and then cut in half. Each slice you should get around 6 small strips. Lay the strips out and place a few arugula leaves over the jamon. Have the cheese cut into small pieces and place it over the leaves. Roll it up and place a cocktail stick through it to hold it together. Ready for a party! These little bites can be make in advance, covered and kept in the fridge until serving.
